Crab mentality - Wikipedia →
Crab mentality, sometimes referred to as crabs in the bucket, describes a way of thinking best described by the phrase “if I can’t have it, neither can you.” The metaphor refers to a pot of crabs. Singly, the crabs could easily escape from the pot, but instead, they grab at each other in a useless “king of the hill” competition which prevents any from escaping and ensures their collective demise. The analogy in human behavior is that of a group that will attempt to “pull down” (negate or diminish the importance of) any member who achieves success beyond the others, out of jealousy or competitive feelings.
Yucca Mountain Johnny - Wikipedia:
Yucca Mountain Johnny is a cartoon miner created by the United States Department of Energy (DOE) to present information to children on nuclear waste disposal and the Yucca Mountain Project. Serving as the virtual guide for the DOE’s Youth Zone web site and appearing “live-action” in Nevada schools, Yucca Mountain Johnny has drawn harsh criticism as a propaganda tool.
U.S. Representative Shelley Berkley (D-NV) has called Yucca Mountain Johnny “the Department of Energy’s Joe Camel”, a reference to a cartoon mascot for the tobacco industry which drew criticism for targeting children. Representative Jon Porter (R-NV) stated that “to sell the Yucca Mountain Project to our children through the use of a cartoon character is an irresponsible and desperate act.”
Opposition to certain developments as inappropriate anywhere in the world is characterised by the acronym NIABY (Not In Anyone’s Backyard). The building of nuclear power plants, for example, is often subject to NIABY concerns. Other terms for the same phenomenon are BANANA (Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anything).
The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.

Bertrand Russell quoted in Dunning–Kruger effect - Wikipedia (via giantrobotlasers)
Nice Wikipedia article. I am going through some massive stress and insecurity as I work on an application, but now this effect is bolstering my confidence: You feel like a worthless slug because you are intelligent enough to underestimate your worth. But I must doubt this ego boost since I’m self-aware enough to see that it’s a transparent outcome of the D-K effect. Since I can discount the ego boost, I am being doubtful and therefore intelligent and— oh my god the room is starting to spin!
