Oh Hey There

I'm a linguist and a young person. I live in Chicago at the moment.

I caught up on some AWAD emails. Be sure to play with the random word page.

skeuomorph: a design feature copied from a similar artifact in another material, even when not functionally necessary. For example, the click sound of a shutter in an analog camera that is now reproduced in a digital camera by playing a sound clip.

hypergelast: one who laughs excessively.

petrichor: the pleasant smell that accompanies the first rain after a dry spell.

quidnunc: a nosy or gossipy person. (derives from Latin quid nunc, “what now”, i.e. “what’s new?”.

limpet: any of various low conical-shelled marine mollusks that adhere tightly to rocks; hence, one that clings stubbornly.
