Here’s Contra for four bucks. Remember how we were all backlashing on the Contra backlash and acting all cynical because we were having the same conversation as we did a couple years ago and weren’t really talking about the music beyond the signifiers—GRACELAND! HORCHATA!—because opining and posturing against strawmen is what we do? That was fun.
Anyway, no winners like the closer to the self-titled debut. “Holiday” is fun, reminds me of thumb piano of Konono No.1—and of course it does—these white boys just hijack worldbeat for indiefied sophistipop— Oh fuck there we go again.
