I ordered the new Malcolm Gladwell book, What The Dog Saw. In a way, an essay collection is all I want from Gladwell. I’ve never bought the Big-Picture Stories of Outliers or Blink!, but I’ve always enjoyed the little-picture stories and the popularizing he does of social science. In other words, I’m a fan of the reporting, not Gladwell’s own Theories of Everything.
Now I hope this doesn’t put me in the category of fans described by Merlin: “[the] generation of self-satisfied people with bachelor’s degrees […] gorging on his horn-rimmed buffet of insouciantly bloggable cocktail party facts”.
